Everyone wants to be happy. Correct me if I’m wrong and you’re the one person enjoys being miserable all the time (please go see a therapist🤗).
But, living in the world we do, happiness can be hard to find.
“Happiness is a mindset.”
We’ve all heard this one, right? “Happiness is all inside you, on your heart/in your head. You just have to find it.”
Well how do you expect us to find it??
We all know life doesn’t come with a handbook, and every person is so incredibly unique and special that it’s impossible to come up with a formula for anything. So I’ll share, over the course of multiple posts, some micro-habits to practice. Maybe they’ll make the sun shine a little bit brighter on your side of town.
No. 1: Gratitude
Gratitude has a huge impact on the way we see life.
Think of it like this: you have a one-room shack, you live by yourself, and your salary is barely enough for survival.
Mindset A: “Ughhh I wish my life were just a little bit easier. Then I would be so much happier! My life sucks, my house sucks, my job sucks. *Sobs*”
OR! (Get ready, this will blow your mind)
Mindset B: “You know what? I don’t like how I’m living now. I don’t enjoy it. But the flowers are still growing, the sky is still blue, and I still have the breath in my lungs to call my own.”
See how nice Mindset B is? Get rid of the Mindset A. It’s polluting your heart and your head and you don’t even realize it.
Nano-habit (it’s a micro-micro habit):
Record your thoughts of thankfulness every day. I would recommend three to start out with, but the more you exercise this nanohabit, the more it will exercise you. (See what I did there?) There is always, always something to be thankful for. So find it and write it down.
At the moment, I have a running list of some of the most basic things on a notes document on my phone. Here’s a sample:
It’s so random, right? I have probably about a hundred things on that list that has grown over the course of months. And these are things I see lying around my house, or in my city when I’m driving. It’s not hard.
Stay tuned for more posts like this in the upcoming weeks!
